A trail helmet for e-MTB riders who want MIPS without paying premium-helmet money. At around £60 it is the cheapest genuine MIPS helmet we list, and it covers the basics that matter off-road: deeper coverage at the back of the head than a road lid, a peak to keep sun and branches off, and a dial you can adjust with one hand.
Giro's own specification states CE EN 1078, the European cycle helmet standard. The Amazon listing does not mention EN 1078 at all, so we have taken it from Giro rather than the listing. EN 1078 is the floor for any cycle helmet sold in the UK rather than a feature.
It is not certified to NTA 8776, the speed-pedelec standard carried by the Bern Hudson and Smith Dispatch in this category. That is normal for a mountain helmet, and fine on an EAPC, where assistance stops at 15.5mph. If your bike exceeds the EAPC limits it is legally a moped and needs an approved motorcycle helmet, which no cycle helmet satisfies. See UK Road Legal (EAPC).
Both Giro and the listing name MIPS directly, so this is the licensed slip-plane liner rather than a similar-sounding "rotational protection" system. On a trail, where falls tend to be angled rather than straight-on, that is the protection worth having.
Giro make it in three fits, and picking the right one matters more than the colour:
The Roc Loc Sport dial gives about 7cm of adjustment within each fit.
Amazon's detail panel gives the weight as 0.69kg. Giro say 330g in size UA. The 0.69kg figure belongs to the first-generation Fixture, whose details are still attached to the listing, so we have gone with Giro.
Stock on Amazon UK is thin and spread across a lot of colours. The UA in Matte Black/Grey is sold and dispatched by Amazon. Some colours ship from an EU Amazon store or a third-party seller with a two to three week wait, so check the seller and delivery date for your size and colour before ordering.
